Kołobrzeg is located in the climatic land called Pobrzeza Kołobrzeskie within the Baltic climate.
Kołobrzeg as a health resort is famous for its rich mud deposits. The mud has both cosmetic and medical functions.
There are sources of mineral water and brine in the spa and surrounding area. In Kołobrzeg, mainly respiratory diseases, diabetes, and joint diseases are treated.
Kołobrzeg is one of the oldest settlements in Western Pomerania, which developed thanks to the production of salt in its vicinity.
In 1830 the first brine bathing plant was established.
During World War I, Kołobrzeg together with its sanatoriums and rest houses was transformed into a huge military hospital.
During the war in 1945, known as the Battle of Kołobrzeg, the city was 95% destroyed.
On March 18, 1945, Polish marriages with the sea took place in Kołobrzeg.
In 1967 Kołobrzeg was formally granted the status of a health resort.
Kołobrzeg’s prominent feature is the Kołobrzeg pier, which is 220 meters long and is the longest reinforced concrete pier in Poland.
A characteristic building of the city is the lighthouse built in 1946 on the site of the previous one blown up in March 1945 by the German army.
